Horizon Glassworks

Statement of fine arts.
Ron Seivertson 1961, Sacramento, California USA is a hot glass artist who lives on the edge with an intense devotion to his craft. Creating masterpieces from the point of view that everything is possible and to do what seems can not be done.
The Artist

Before realizing he was destined for something else Ron spent more then 20 years in construction. He awoke the artist in him with painting and sculpturing beforefinding ‘off hand’ hot glass as his ultimate medium in 2003. From that moment Ron took to glassblowing and sculpting quickly and naturally. Ron has studied intensely in Seattle, Washington USA and Melbourne, Australia. He has attained his most masterful lessons at The Pilchuck Glass School. Being a glassblower is based in his DNA, so to speak, as he found out during his first years that his great grandfather was a glassblower from Norway and that persons with his surname have been working with Hot Glass in northern Europe for more than 200 years.

allowing magic and passion’s tenacity. Ron’s Horizon Glassworks Studio in Ubud, Bali is his arena of pursuing the creation of master pieces and the unprecedented.

In only 6 years of practice Ron Seivertson is now known and steadily emerging more and more, all over the world. He has a strong reputation and widely regarded for producing stunning glass art works that are unique in their style and form.

Artist's Statement

Many artists have a moment of powerful influence from the works of others that compel them to go a certain direction with their work or move into a style or medium. For me it was the work of Gustav Vigeland when I visited his museum in Oslo Norway, his ability to capture human expression simply knocked me out.

Hot Glass fits my personality, my need for quick gratification and a sense of conquest. It challenges me to explore possibilities regardless of the subject at hand. The results are immediate. Hot Glass is my competitor in many variations to exhaust my creative ambitions for the remainder of my life. Not all sculptors get the chance to work with Glass and for me it is humbling and a great privilege.

Most of my early sculptural works are about the human expression and experience, how we relate to our surroundings and others. For the last 5 years I have been living and working on Bali, the island of the Gods. It has influenced my work directly, especially the energy of highly qualified artists surrounding me. I have been experiencing a great freedom to manifest my dreams in a culture and environment that compels me every day. It opens up my power to create more and more of my personal desires and inspirations.

The conceptual idea of my work- although very important- is often secondary to my desire of challenge to create unique works. I enjoy pushing boundaries to see what is possible in the moment with hot glass in my hands. Lately I have been working collaboratively and individually with prehistoric themes representing animals, artifacts and “Early Man” specifically as found objects, bones and skulls. The subject encourages me to think of human life in the early days of humanity and is challenging me to transform their life, their emotions, drama of survival, their handicrafts, spiritual beliefs and rituals into new expressions with Glass Art Objects.

The Alchemy of Glass keeps surprising me and this alchemic process is encouraging me daily to see what there is yet to discover.

Art Installations

Glass Art can enliven environments as no other art media can. Weather it is a fountain in your garden, a chandelier in your entrance, a stand alone sculpture or a wall ensemble, the impact, enlivening and value enhancing effects of glass art are undeniable. As an artist structural know how with many mediums- as well as from his background as building contractor – Ron Seivertson knows how to create and assemble Glass Art Installations and has years of experience working with Architects and Engineers. Glass is a stabile, long-lasting medium that-even in the humidity of the tropics, or brutal dryness of the dessert- is not subject to the same deterioration of so many other art forms and for hundreds if not thousands of years holds it’s beauty and value.

Out door works subject to acid rain or hard water can be Nano coated. Nano coatings are known to protect most surfaces from the effects of harsh water environments.

Graal Works

Due to the discontinuance of “Paradise Paints”, lead based glass enamels, we are presently not able to produce any more Graal pieces. The last finished works we have in our gallery have become collectable artifacts due to their limitation and unprecedented achievement. If you are interested in the last of these collector pieces please contact us.

Under Seivertson’s direction master Balinese painters - Nyoman Surakso and Nyoman Mantur - executed some of the most stunningly detailed “Graal” works seen in the world today. Modern Graal works are mostly known by their precise paintings on glass pieces. Using high temperature glass enamels these master painters have pushed this difficult medium to higher level of detail and achieved great success. First painting traditional Balinese motifs and then broadening into a wider range of imagery, Ron and the painters have developed layering techniques to achieve very fine detailed paintings. The uniqueness of the graal paint allows the glassblower to gather over the colors and then blow the piece to form. The enamel stretches and is encased in the layers of clear glass forever. Collectors responses from around the globe is certainly making it’s mark establishing this series as high art achievement. We are presently looking for replacements of the Paradise paints, but to date have found no equal enamels.
